Cake decorating equipment

When you are learning how to bake, there are a few pieces of cake decorating equipment that you will need in order to make attractive cakes. It is suggested that when you start baking, you only buy the cake decorating equipment that you need in order to complete your current project. This allows you to spread the investment of supplies over a few days, weeks, or months. This can be highly useful as some of the equipment, especially for piping, can get quiet expensive if you invest in high quality gear.

While you can purchase low quality cake decorating equipment, this equipment tends to not be very durable. You will be able to make several cakes with it before they begin to fail or need replaced. For example, you can purchase piping bags that are designed for only one or two uses. These are cheaper in comparison to high quality bags that you will reuse. However, you will use one, or several, of these bags for every cake that you bake. This can add up fast enough that you would have been better off purchasing reusable bags over the cheaper, disposable ones.

Depending on the type of cake decorating you do, you may keep a mixture of reusable and disposable cake decorating equipment. For example, if you work primarily with fondant cake designing, you may only use disposable icing bags, as many fondant designs require little icing. In many cases, the icing that you use can be applied by hand. The same applies with marzipan cake designers.

When you go to purchase your cake decorating equipment, you will want to keep a list of the items that you have. As your collection of equipment grows, having a good inventory of what you already own can prevent you from purchasing the same item several times. You should write down the equipment you already own in a small notebook that you can take with you when you go shopping for supplies. This will let you only purchase the supplies that you need for a cake decorating project. While this usually involves a bit of extra work, it can save you a lot of money and storage space. One of the most common issues that bakers have is that they run out of space for all of the tips for their piping bags, as well as run out of space for the various cutters and other implements used.
